Driven to Paint
Landscapes by Mark Zillman
Through Oct. 18, 2010
T2, Presecurity Checkpoint

Mark Zillman’s love for the outdoors was cultivated in his youth by family road-trips. As an artist, the windshield-framed vistas experienced from his automobile inspired him to paint this series of landscapes focusing on the Arizona roadway.

“After many years of painting pure landscapes, I began thinking of ways to push myself forward. The thought struck me, to paint what one sees through the windshield while driving. As I began exploring this avenue, I realized that the automobile could be used as a vehicle, or a framework, to carry unlimited ideas for paintings.”

Zillman begins his landscapes from his memory and imagination, virtual road-trips through his mind. The completed paintings take the viewer along for the ride. Because of the combination of Zillman’s intimate knowledge of the landscape and his love for being in the driver’s seat, he is Driven to Paint.
