CityNorth Another Project Success for Northeast Phoenix
In northeast Phoenix, great projects are becoming a hallmark.
Now, as you probably have heard, another fabulous development is underway.
In November, the Thomas J. Klutznick Company held a groundbreaking for the new CityNorth.
The site is under construction between the 101 freeway and Deer Valley Road, just west of 56th Street. You can see it from the 101 and from 56th Street.
CityNorth is the perfect compliment to our other nearby commercial developments. It will bring a wonderful mix of retail, office use and residential – the kind of mixed-use development that provides an interactive lifestyle for all who visit, work or live there.
Here is the CityNorth rundown:
- 5.5 million-square-foot development on 144 acres
- Phase 1 – completion scheduled for mid-2008, with three- and four-level buildings on the signature "High Street"
- Phase 2 – completion scheduled for late 2009, with public gathering spaces, fountains, sculpture gardens, restaurants, top-notch department stores, luxury residences and two hotels.

Another exciting detail is the first retail store to commit to CityNorth – Nordstrom.
Developments like CityNorth benefit all of us. They are community gathering places. They add to the city's sales tax revenue, bringing in more money for police, fire, parks, libraries and senior centers. They become employment bases, which draw residents here from other parts of the country because of our great lifestyle. And at the end of the day, they're the place that many will call home.
We have the trend-setting Kierland Commons and Desert Ridge Marketplace developments. Both are being emulated around the region and the whole country.
They are the kinds of centers that make our community better – making it easier for all of us to live, work and play in northeast Phoenix. They take advantage of our great weather, allowing us to shop outside the whole year, while providing a combination of shade, water fountains, grass and misting to cool things off during the summer.
Phoenix is still a relatively new city – still a work in progress. By creating destinations like CityNorth, the whole Desert Ridge area and Kierland Commons, we are building quality developments that will last generations.
And it's very exciting for all of us to see these projects move from development plans to reality.
