New Internet Registration for Phoenix Parks and Recreation Programs and Classes
As a mother of two daughters, I know the difficulty of having to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to stand in line and try to sign my girls up for swim lessons or other Parks and Recreation Department classes. I have heard from some parents who even camped out overnight outside Parks and Recreation facilities to ensure their kids were enrolled in summer programming. Well, we're happy to announce that those days are now a thing of the past. You can now sign up from the comfort of your own home.
For the first time ever, Parks and Recreation is offering Internet registration for its extensive offerings of classes and programs. The new system, Parks and Recreation Online (PRO), gives participants a convenient, one-stop, on-line shop to view every department class and program offering and to register with any major credit card. The system will be up and running for registration for all of the department’s summer programs.
Residents can search the full schedule of citywide community center classes, Phoenix Afterschool Center (PAC) after-school and summer programs, swim classes and specialty arts and museum programming. Users can search for classes by topic or by facility.
If you're new to city classes and programs, you'll need to log on to create an account in the system. Go to phoenix.gov/parks and click on “Register for Classes and Programs." Once on the PRO homepage, users should click on the "New Account" link near the top of the page and fill in their account information. When you're logged in, you can register for classes and programs on-line with any major credit card after the beginning of the specific registration periods for the particular class or program.
Registration dates for individual classes and programs vary. Some registrations started in April, and registration dates for other programs continue through May. Please check out the system and open an account before registration periods take effect. This will give you time to get comfortable with the system and fully explore the schedules.
Participants still can register for programs in person when registration periods begin, but you cannot use credit cards for in-person registration. The Internet and in-person registration periods begin at the same time and there is no advantage to registering in person. Residents can e-mail parks.registration@phoenix.gov with questions.
Remember, even if you don't own a computer, you can access the Internet and the new sign-up system at all Phoenix Public Library branches.
I hope that many of you are able to take advantage of this new service and that you're successful in getting your kids or yourself enrolled in the great programs that our Parks and Recreation Department offers.
