Sean Bodkin joins Planning Commission
I am so pleased to announce that northeast Phoenix has representation on the Phoenix Planning Commission. The Mayor and City Council has appointed Sean Bodkin to the commission, who will serve for one year until April 30, 2004.
Aside from being more than qualified for the position, Bodkin's appointment is important because it gives geographic balance to the commission. He will represent northeast Phoenix, which is the fastest growing part of the city.
"I look forward to bringing a new perspective to the Planning Commission regarding growth and development in our community," Bodkin said.
Some of Bodkin's objectives are to take an objective look at growth in the Valley and find a balance between our residential and commercial neighbors in the way we approach expansion in our community; to continue to advocate a partnership in our community between developers and residential members; and to ensure that growth and redevelopment are done in such a way as to enhance our entire community.
Bodkin wants to focus on working together with everyone in the community. He said, "Since I live in northeast Phoenix, I am particularly concerned with how the city manages growth, not only in this area of Phoenix, but in all the areas of our community that continue to grow."
He also plans to continue forging partnerships with neighboring communities and looking at best practices with our local communities as well as comparable cities throughout the country. Bodkin is the executive director of the Tatum Ranch Community Association and has been an active member of the Desert View Village planning committee, where he will continue to serve. Formerly a finance manager for New West Energy, he also served for three years on a site-planning group for Bank One.
The Planning Commission hears and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding changes in zoning, the general plan and city ordinances related to land use and development, as well as area plans and special studies related to planning issues. Its members also propose amendments and ordinances regarding the promotion of public health, comfort, safety and the welfare of Phoenix residents.
