Councilwoman Peggy Neely’s
Neighborhood News Council Corner Column
The Palomino neighborhood is comprised of a one-square-mile, densely populated area that is served by the Horizon Police Precinct in north-central Phoenix. The boundaries are from Cave Creek Road to 32nd Street and Greenway to Bell roads. The Steering Committee for the neighborhood has adopted strategies to reclaim their neighborhood over the next five years, including: a reduction in the number of violent offenses related to gangs and drug activity; a reduction in property crimes/stolen vehicles in the area; and to increase resident participation in crime prevention programs such as Block Watch and Phoenix Neighborhood On Patrol.
With the selection of the U.S. Department of Justice and through the collaborative efforts of city departments, law enforcement and both public and private businesses, Palomino will transition from an area plagued by severe crime to a community strong-hold. It is critical that our communities are safe and represent the great quality of life that this city stands for. Through programs like Weed and Seed, we are giving neighborhoods vital tools they need to be successful in getting rid of the bad and implementing the good.
