Vice Mayor Peggy Neely recently was honored by the Phoenix Association of RealtorsŪ with the Citizen of the Year Award. The award honors individuals who are committed to their community and have a sincere concern in strengthening neighborhoods. Neely was recognized with this award due to her commitment and hard work on issues such as private property rights, homeownership, first-time buyer programs and creating and sustaining strong neighborhoods.
Neely has served Council District 2 in northeast Phoenix since 2002. Prior to election to City Council, she served as chairwoman of the Paradise Valley Village Planning Committee and the Phoenix Water and Sewer Rate Advisory Committee. She also has served on the Paradise Valley School District United Parents Council. Neely currently sits on the Board of Directors for Maricopa Association of Governments, the Phoenix Women’s Sports Association and the Greater Phoenix Convention Center & Visitors Bureau.
Past recipients of Citizen of the Year Award include, Phoenix Police Officers Perry Rose and Joe Thayer, Jerry Colangelo, the Rev. Carl Calozzi, former Mayor Skip Rimsza, Gov. Janet Napolitano and former Arizona Diamondbacks player, Luis Gonzalez.
