Block Watch Grant Application Process Open
If you had an opportunity to reduce crime in your neighborhood, wouldn't you take it? With block watch grant funding, the city of Phoenix could give you the opportunity to enhance the safety and quality of life in the city while empowering community groups to work to prevent and solve crime-related problems in your neighborhoods.
The block watch grant application process is now open through 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6. Eligible primary applicants are neighborhood and block watch groups and homeowners' associations listed with the city of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department or block watch groups listed with the Phoenix Police Department. Educational or religious organizations, nonprofit agencies and city of Phoenix departments can only apply as co-applicants.
The purpose of the neighborhood block watch grant program is to detect, deter or delay crime. This is done by educating people to work together to solve problems, encouraging citizens to develop a sense of ownership for their neighborhoods, coordinating meetings and teaching crime prevention and safety techniques.
Interested groups can pick up application packets at Police Headquarters, at any police precinct or at the North or South Resource Bureau. Applications should be submitted to Police Headquarters at 620 W. Washington St . For more information, including applications, instructions and police locations, go to phoenix.gov/POLICE/nbwgrant.html or call 602-262-6543. Application workshops are scheduled throughout January.
