Educators will find the Rio Salado Habitat a great resource for their students. If your group is looking for a specialized program, please contact us as we can develop an educational opportunity especially for you. To inquire about a group visit, call (602) 262-6863 or (602) 262-6713 (tty) or send an e-mail to rio.salado@phoenix.gov.
Walking Tours: Uncover the history of the Rio Salado, the history of the early days along the river, the damage sustained to current day, and the revitalization efforts that have turned it into a unique resource for humans and wildlife today.
Birds of Rio Salado - Discover the birds of the Rio Salado Project on a guided hike. Hikes are fully accessible and are1 to 2 miles on even surfaces at a leisurely pace with numerous stops. Enjoy learning the basic skills of binocular use, bird finding and identification using field guides, and discovering different habitat types. Bring binoculars if you have them.
Wonders of Wetlands - Find out how the desert climate impacts water as it moves through the water cycle. As we explore the demonstration wetland area, uncover the secrets that make up a riparian environment; including aquifers, water recharge, and aquatic plants, wildlife and insects who call a wetland home.
Guided Bike Ride - Would you like to ride your bike without vehicle traffic? We will make various stops to observe riparian birds, amphibians, reptiles, and a rich mix of trees and plants unique to the area. All ages are welcome if they can ride two wheels. Bring your own bike and helmet.
Bikers can enjoy great views of the low flow channel, wetlands, and wildlife
