Volunteers Spruce Up Neighborhoods during Community Event
More than 130 people gathered earlier this month to volunteer in a neighborhood cleanup organized by the Support Sky Harbor Coalition and the city of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department. The cleanup was held in a neighborhood just west of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Cleanup included vegetation removal as well as debris and tire removal. Debris was also removed in right-of-ways and alleyways.
The event opened with welcome remarks from Deputy City Manager Jerome Miller as well as Ray Buchanan on behalf of the Neighborhood Services Department. Several local organizations brought groups of volunteers to the event including Wilson Electric, AREAS USA, Berry Realty, the city of Phoenix Aviation Department and Bombardier. Materials and equipment were also donated by local companies. Austin Bridge & Road and Austin Commercial provided a backhoe and operator for the large debris removal. ShelterCLEAN and The Cleaner Part of Dirty provided additional landscaping equipment and trucks for volunteers to utilize.
This event is the second cleanup hosted by the Support Sky Harbor Coalition, a non-profit corporation that strives to educate the community about the quality-of-life and economic benefits Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport brings to the Valley of the Sun. The Support Sky Harbor Coalition will host two additional community cleanups throughout the year.
