PHX Perspective
Perfect FAA Inspection at Sky Harbor
PHX Sky Harbor prides itself on safety, security and customer
service. Staffers work hard to ensure that the Airport not only
meets safety standards, but exceeds them. Over the past year,
the Sky Harbor Airfield Standards Committee conducted an in-depth
airfield signage study to make sure the Airport was in full compliance
with Federal Aviation Administration standards. The Committee
also put together standards for all contractors at Sky Harbor
to ensure consistency for pilots taking off and landing at the
airport.
Each year, major airports are required to go through a comprehensive
inspection to ensure that they are complying with federal aviation
regulations. Sky Harbor’s efforts paid off because for the fourth
consecutive year, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport received
perfect marks in the annual FAA certification inspection.
During the inspection, officials carefully audit inspection
records, fueling procedures and emergency response procedures.
Employee training records are also examined to make sure that
training is up-to-date. Also, the entire airfield is evaluated
to guarantee that it is safe for air traffic. All phases of this
inspection were successfully completed, and the Airport received
a score of zero discrepancies.
“Consistent airfield safety is a priority Sky Harbor,” said
Assistant Aviation Director Carl Newman. “Our staff works closely
with all of our stakeholders to ensure excellent communication
and safe operations at Sky Harbor. Our 2009 certification inspection
shows our continued commitment to excellence.”
Kudos to the collaborative efforts of Airport, airline and local
FAA staff who work hard to exceed standards again and again.
