Southwest to Begin Service to Newark from Phoenix
Travelers wishing to visit the New York City area will have additional flight options beginning June 2011. Southwest Airlines has announced that it will be offering two daily nonstop flights from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport.
"Southwest's service enhancement is significant in that it provides Phoenix with expanded access to the capacity controlled New York market," said Acting Assistant Aviation Director Tamie Fisher. "Southwest has added a variety of flights in the Phoenix market over the past year. Some flights serve new markets from Phoenix like Boston, Ft. Lauderdale and Minneapolis-St. Paul, while other flight offerings improve convenience by adding frequencies to existing markets. We expect Southwest to continue to grow in the Phoenix market and its service to long haul markets."
Additionally, other carriers have boosted their flight options from Phoenix. For example, JetBlue added a daily non-stop flight from Phoenix to Boston. And, over the past year, Phoenix Sky Harbor has boosted its Canadian air service with additional nonstop seasonal service to Regina and Saskatoon on WestJet. Air Canada has also added a nonstop seasonal Montreal flight as well as doubled its Toronto service during the winter by adding a second daily flight.
