Sky Harbor Receives Numerous Safety Awards

Sky Harbor has been repeatedly recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its excellent safety record. Most recently, Sky Harbor was recognized at the FAA Western-Pacific Region Annual Airports Conference for its commitment to safety and for its ongoing efforts to work in collaboration with the FAA.

“Safety and security are top priorities at Sky Harbor,” said Assistant Aviation Director, Carl Newman. “I am proud of our dedicated staff which works in partnership with the FAA, the airlines and other Airport stakeholders to ensure that one of the busiest airports in the country is also one of the most well-run.”

Additionally, Sky Harbor has received its sixth perfect FAA certification safety inspection in a row. Every year, the FAA conducts a thorough inspection of the air operations area and rates the Airport on runway and taxiway maintenance, record-keeping, emergency response and more. The inspector looks at everything from airfield markings to lighting and signage. “It takes employees from various divisions, working together around the clock and at the top of their game to achieve perfect inspections six years in a row,” said Newman.
