Wrapping Gifts to Help Travelers and the Community
Travelers flying out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport last week may have utilized a special service that America’s Friendliest Airport® was offering just before the holidays. This service was free gift wrapping for an optional donation, post-security, for those who were carrying on their gifts or doing some last minute Airport shopping.
The gift wrapping occurred last Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at two locations in Terminal 4. Overall, more than 700 gifts were wrapped with the peak wrapping day being Thursday.
The program, now in its second year, has received positive feedback from travelers who really enjoy having this service available.
“So many travelers have told us what a great idea this is,” said Customer Service Manager Alisa Smith. “Customers were able to have their gifts wrapped and not worry about it when they reached their destinations, giving them more time to enjoy the holidays.”
Airport staff and volunteer Navigators gave their time to wrap the gifts, and donations were accepted at the gift wrapping stations. More than $1,300 was raised to benefit local United Way charities through the city of Phoenix Community Service Fund Drive. Airport employees, volunteer Navigators, tenants and travelers also donated wrapping paper and supplies.
