Customer Appreciation Day Events Dazzle Customers

The melodic sound of a guitar and the bold sound of bagpipes could be heard in Terminal 4 early on October 4. Travelers and Airport visitors might have also spotted Sky Harbor’s mascot, Amelia, flying around the terminals or the Paradise Bakery Cookie passing out coupons and “chippers.” All of these sights and sounds were part of the day’s celebration. Deemed Customer Appreciation Day, the event, now in its third year, gave travelers the opportunity not only to see and hear unique entertainers, but also to take advantage of Airport store and restaurant discounts. It was Sky Harbor’s way to say thank you to its visitors.

Many travelers stopped to take pictures and children were delighted to meet Amelia in her airplane costume. Other travelers enjoyed a surprise visit from Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon who donned the purple Navigator jacket and thanked travelers as they enjoyed coffee at Starbucks or dined at Chili’s. More travelers and even Airport employees gathered around the “OK Chorale,” a cowboy trio composed of Tumbleweed Tony, Jinglin Jud and Yodelin Al, as they sang songs and entertained audiences. Amelia even danced to the tunes.

And, the excitement was contagious among those in the Airport as they were treated to specials or surprise visits from Airport employees. Even travelers who had never met one another gathered around for photo opportunities and to check out the day’s events. Volunteer Navigators in purple also handed out stickers and greeted travelers while Navigator George Walker charmed onlookers as he played the bagpipes.

All in all, travelers stated that the day’s events were such a pleasant surprise. Airport employees said they enjoyed the opportunity to give a little extra back and thank travelers. Phoenix Sky Harbor would again like to thank all of its customers as well as Airport businesses, employees and Navigator volunteers who participated in the day’s events.
