Important Travel Tips for BCS Visitors

Sky Harbor is offering some custom travel tips for Auburn and Oregon fans in town for the January 10 BCS (Bowl Championship Series) game.

  • Bringing home a game program? Please place your program in your carry-on bag rather than checked luggage. Because the shape, size and materials used in the programs, they’re not easily identified in the checked baggage screening process and may cause luggage to be hand-searched.
  • Make sure to allow enough time to check in and get through Airport security. Travelers are advised to arrive to the Airport a minimum of two hours before flight departure.
  • Travelers who need to return a rental car should be aware that the Rental Car Center will be very busy the day after the game. Arrive at the Rental Car Center a minimum of 2-3 hours before flight departure time to allow for transfer to the terminals, check-in, and security.

Anyone using Sky Harbor on January 11 should be aware that the Airport will be much busier than usual. On an average day, Sky Harbor sees 90,000 to 100,000 passengers. However, on a day like January 11, the Airport could see up to 150,000 passengers. Phoenix Sky Harbor is staffed and ready, but would like to remind travelers to allow extra time.
