Download ApplicationProgram BackgroundSince April 1986, the Phoenix Police Department's Citizen Police Academy (CPA) has given business and community leaders an inside look at law enforcement. During the Academy, citizens visit the training academy and are introduced to:
Academy classes are taught by police executives and veteran officers.
Students will have the opportunity to meet with the Police Chief, and
they are encouraged to ask questions and express their concerns to police
employees. The Phoenix Police Department hopes there will be a greater
awareness and understanding of law enforcement's role in the community
through the education provided by the Citizen Police Academy. Academy ScheduleThe Phoenix Police Department offers several sessions of the Citizen
Police Academy throughout the year. Classes meet once a week for
nine weeks. Classes are held on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30
p.m. The ninth session of the Academy is graduation. The classes
are held at various police facilities within the City of Phoenix. Entrance RequirementsPotential candidates for the Citizen Police Academy must meet the following criteria:
Selection ProcedureCitizen Police Academy students are selected by the Police Chief through a nomination process. Citizens are nominated by police staff and former Academy students. The names of the selected candidates are then placed on a waiting list. Enrollment is limited to approximately thirty students per session.
