Desert West Community Center


The Desert West Community Center is located between McDowell and Thomas Roads, on the East side of 67th Ave. The Desert West Community Center was established in 1989 with the purpose of providing recreational, educational and social activities for citizens of all ages.
Amenities  
Gymnasium: Youth basketball leagues and open gym.

Multi-Purpose Room: Seats up to 300 people theater style.

Teen Room: Video games, fooseball, teen activities.

West Lobby: Billiards, ping pong, air hockey and board games.

East Lobby: Lending library and Phoenix at your fingertips.

Classrooms: Seat up to 35 people, available for meetings, call for rental availability and fees, (602) 495-3706.

Help with front desk duties, assist in classrooms or work at one of our seasonal special events! The Desert West Association is made up of active volunteers who work in cooperation with community center staff to provide classes and special events.

Over 225 classes are offered in various sessions throughout the year in cooperation with the Desert West Association. Various fees may apply.

Toddlers: Numbers, letters, shapes, games, sports, arts and crafts, storytime, drama and more!

Youth: Karate, tennis, ballet folklorico, tumbling, pom, cheerleading and arts and crafts.

Teens: After school activities, teen room, video games, billiards and more!

Youth Dance: Jazz, hip hop, tap and ballet.

Adult Dance and Fitness: Karate, tennis, tai-chi, tap dance, walking and aerobics.

Music lessons: Piano, guitar and drums are just some of the classes that are offered.

Adult Ceramics: Painting and designing projects are just part of the fun.

Teams can collect points throughout the year by participating and playing. Tournament program finishes with an invitational tournament for teams that reach a set point total.

Senior Activities

Recreational activities: Bingo, card games, crocheting, book club, ceramics, library special events and more!
Exercise: Join us for walking, tai-chi, line dancing and much more.
Field Trips: Museums, shopping, lunches and other community centers are just some of the fun trips that are offered.
Guest Speakers: Human services will bring in experts to speak on: fitness, financial well being and how to stay healthy and happy.

Brown Bag: Weekly food bags at an annual fee for those who qualify depending on income levels, call (602) 495-3706.
Lunch Program: Meals served weekdays at 11:30 a.m. by reservation, call (602) 495-3709. $ 2.00 contributions suggested.
Meals on Wheels: Offers meal delivery for qualified individuals through Maricopa County Managed Care Systems, call (602) 495-3709.

Four field lit Softball Complex: For organized men's and co-rec league and tournament play only.
Lit Synthetic Soccer Complex: For organized youth and adult league and tournament play only.
Marc Atkinson Urban Lake: A five acre lake and urban fishing at its best. An urban fishing license is required for ages 14 and older through Arizona's Game and Fish Department.
Sand Volleyball: Six outdoor courts are located lakeside by Marc Atkinson Lake.
Outdoor sport courts: Two full court lit basketball courts, lit sand and cement volleyball courts and four lit tennis courts.
Four wall racquetball courts. Five outdoor four wall racquetball courts.
Skate board plaza: Skateboarders welcome. Please no roller bladders, bicycles or scooters.
