Phoenix Parks and Recreation Taking Applications for 2008 APS Electric Light Parade

Though winter is months away, organizers for the APS Electric Light Parade already are accepting applications to participate in the Dec. 6 holiday gala.

The theme for the 2008 parade is “Preserving a Family Holiday Tradition.” The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department currently is accepting applications from group and organization motorized floats, custom helium parade balloons, performance groups and marching bands. Entry fees range from no charge up to $400.

The parade gets under way at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 on Central Avenue at Montebello (just south of Bethany Home Road). The parade route heads south on Central to Camelback, where it heads east to Seventh Street before turning south to the end at Indian School Road.

Tens of thousands of spectators line the parade route each year to enjoy the amazing spectacle of lighted floats, performance groups and the sights-and-sounds of the holidays.

Those interested in participating can find comprehensive registration information and submit an application online at phoenix.gov/parks on the APS Electric Light Parade link. Parks staff will accept registration applications until Nov. 7 or until a total of 70 entries have been accepted.

Additional information is available at phoenix.gov/parks or by calling 602-261-8069.
