SOLID WASTE FEE INCREASE - JANUARY 2008
What is the new fee?
As of Jan. 14, 2008, the monthly solid waste services base fee will be $25.45 rather than $24.45, an increase of $1 per month.
What does this fee pay for?
The base fee includes weekly collection of garbage and/or recyclables, quarterly bulk trash collection, transportation and disposal costs, repair and replacement of containers and illegal dumping prevention programs. The fee also supports numerous solid waste environmental programs such as the household hazardous waste program, appliance/electronics recycling and code enforcement activities.
Why has the fee gone up?
The increase is necessary to keep up with growth, inflation, and increased fuel costs.
Who approved this fee?
The Public Works Department makes a recommendation after careful consideration. The recommendation goes through a review process to a council subcommittee during a public forum. If the fee increase is found to be justified, it goes to the city council for final approval..
When was the last solid waste services fee increase?
The last fee increase was in January 2007. The fee increase at the time was $.50 per month.
