Applications for the 2009 Outstanding Young Man/Young Woman fo the Year Award are currently being accepted! Please read the following guidelines and fill out an online application form.
Goals and Objectives
The program recognized and honors the outstanding achievements of young people, enhances the perception of youth and raises community awareness of the positive contributions of youth.
Awards
- One young man and one young woman from each of the eight city council districts will be selected as a Council District winner and will receive $250.
- One young man and one young woman will be selected from among the district winners as the overall winners and receive an additional $2,000 plus two round-trip airline tickets from Southwest Airlines.
- Winners from each city district and the citywide young man and young woman of the year will be recognized at a luncheon and in city publicity materials. District winners will also have an opportunity to participate in citywide programs and special appearances to promote youth issues.
Eligibility
- You must live within Phoenix city limits and be in 9th through 12th grade.
- If selected as a semifinalist, a copy of your official transcript and one letter of recommendation from a non-relative must be submitted by January 12, 2009.
- Finalists must be available in person for interviews on February 7, 2009 during the following times:
Young Men: 8am - 12:30pm
Young Women: 12:45pm - 5pm
- Winners must be available to attend the awards luncheon on Thursday, April 2, 2009.

Applications must include your name, contact information, and a short personal statement. The personal statement may not exceed 750 words.
