The city manager works closely with the mayor and City Council, helping them formulate objectives and programs that are important to residents. With the assistance of a management team, the city manager oversees Phoenix’s 26 departments and major city functions. The city employs about 14,000 people who are guided by a set of Vision and Values that emphasize customer service, diversity, team work, hard work, innovation, results, integrity and improvement.
