Authors & Poets Lecture Series: Stella Pope Duarte
Educator, community activist and author, Stella Pope Duarte, presents her third book, If I Die In Juarez, based on her research in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Duarte weaves a compelling story of three young women living in the border town and how their worlds are affected by the violence in their city.
"Phoenix Sustainability 101"
A panel of specialists from various City of Phoenix departments provide updates on the city's short and long term goals to address how we protect and sustain valuable resources with regard to environmental issues. Future resources of energy, fuel, products and manpower are covered. This event was presented by the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and District 6 Councilman, Greg Stanton.
Phoenix Channel 11 recently was recognized with awards at the 28th annual Telly Awards. The Telly Awards, one of the most sought-after awards by industry leaders, honor outstanding local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions.

Vice Mayor Peggy Neely is On the Road to tour Phase I of CityNorth, a pedestrian-friendly urban core development featuring great hotels, wonderful retail stores, restaurants, corporate offices, residential, and public spaces and plazas. Phase I will open to the public in mid-November and we’ll learn what CityNorth brings to the Valley.
   

District 3 Councilwoman Maria Baier "On The Issues"
Councilmember Maria Baier discusses a state initiative called "Be Outdoors Arizona"; she'll meet the author of a national-bestselling book and learn about the needs of food banks in her district.

    District 4 Councilman Tom Simplot "On The Issues"
Councilman Tom Simplot discusses the upcoming state legislative session, state budget and Arizona's changing political landscape.
    District 5 Councilman Claude Mattox
Councilman Claude Mattox highlights the importance for residents to Shop Phoenix. He also features the Reserve Division of the Phoenix Police Department and a local student guitar ensemble from his district. To close the show, he learns about holiday safety tips from Phoenix Police and Fire representatives.
    District 6 Councilman Greg Stanton
Councilman Greg Stanton meets the newly-elected legislators from Districts 11 and 20. He highlights the Roosevelt Community Technology Center and the Be A Leader Foundation. To close the show, he features The College Depot, a new program with the city's Youth and Education Office.
    District 7 Councilman Michael Nowakowski
Councilman Michael Nowakowski highlights several holiday and cultural celebrations, celebrates Del Monte's 100th anniversary and discusses how residents can help those in need through programs offered by the city's Human Services Department.
   

District 8 Councilman Michael Johnson "On The Issues"
Councilman Michael Johnson discusses the need for residents to become foster families and adopt children, especially within District 8. He highlights the various programs and services offered by Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Phoenix and the upcoming Martin Luther King Awards Breakfast and other community events that celebrate the MLK holiday.
